Using CBD oil for animals has a huge positive effect. More and more people are choosing to use hemp oil or CBD oil for their pets. This stems from people’s own positive experiences with CBD oil or cannabidiol. Animals, like humans, also have an endocannabinoid system, so it makes sense: CBD also works in animals.
CBD use on the rise for animals
The use of CBD oil for animals has been increasing in recent years. There are about 3.8 million households in the Netherlands, which together have distributed about 27 million pets, including 2.6 million cats (23%), 1.5 million dogs (18%), 4 million birds, as well as countless rabbits, fish, snakes and more. In addition, most people have more than one pet or a combination of different types of pets.
What exactly is CBD oil?
CBD oil is a naturally derived extract that most CBD oil producers have diluted with a carrier oil such as olive oil or hemp seed oil. At Cannabisolie.com, the substance is obtained from the hemp plant via pure extraction, with the aim of isolating the active substances into a so-called extract.

This allows us to offer 100% organic CBD oil. CBD oil is known for its numerous uses, especially in the medical world. (Also read: what is CBD oil? )
What is CBD oil used for?
Posting medical claims about CBD oil on our website is not allowed. So we cannot specify the numerous uses of cannabinoids like CBD and how CBD oil can be used, but millions of users worldwide report that CBD oil restores the natural balance between the body and mind.
CBD oil in the past
In the past, cannabis was mainly used to treat stress and anxiety symptoms when you ran out of other treatment options. People who suffer from anxiety and stress often sleep poorly, which is the same with dogs, cats.
Cannabis oil was also popular for its sedative, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects that reduced inflammation and joint pain, to help develop the brain, to boost the immune system and for balancing appetite, nervous system and mood.
The drug was also used against epilepsy and prevention of seizures. For dogs or cats with epilepsy, reach out to us for more information.
The body’s own endocannabinoid system
CBD also works very well in animals, especially mammals such as a dog, cat or horse. Animals, like humans, also have a body’s own endocannabinoid system (ECS).

This ECS responds to cannabinoids with the CB1 and CB2 receptors. these receptors send signals, regulating various body processes. Consider sleep, pain perception, digestion, emotions, immune system, appetite and the like.
The use of CBD products is aimed at supporting and balancing the endocannabinoid system through its receptors. The ECS recognizes the cannabinoid from the hemp plant as native to the body. Supporting your pet’s endocannabinoid system in such a natural way.
Which animals can use CBD oil?
Basically, you can give CBD oil to any (domestic) animal: from large to small, mainly dogs and cats. However, you are going to have to adjust the dosage to the size of the animal. However, CBD oil is not only suitable for dogs and cats. Any animal that has an endocannabinoīde system can use CBD oil. So this includes horses, fish, birds, hamsters, snakes and other vertebrates.

Choosing the right oil concentration
A lower strength oil of a lower percentage of CBD is quite suitable as a starting dose for cats and dogs. The 2.5% and the 5% bottles are especially ideal for dogs and cats. A horse benefits from the same concentration as humans, i.e., 10% or 20%. Our oil is blended with organic hemp seed oil. The advantage is that hemp oil is the most subtle for the absorption of the CBD oil in animals.
Consult with the vet
When an animal has a serious illness, you should consult with a veterinarian. Fortunately, more and more vets are aware of the positive effect of CBD oil in animals and will therefore be happy to contribute ideas.

Even with an animal, you need to check for any contraindications related to the other medication already prescribed.
So notify the veterinarian if the animal is on other medications. If your animal suffers from stress and anxiety more often, indicate this as well.
The right dosage of CBD oil
The dosage depends on the reason for use and body weight. Always start with a lower dose and gradually build it up. The dosage varies by dog, cat, horse and the like.
– CBD oil dog or cat: Pay attention to weight. You can use 1 to 5 mg of CBD oil (2.5-5% cannabidiol) for a 10-pound dog or cat. However, monitor your dog or cat’s effects.
– CBD oil horse: 1 drop at a time (10-20% cannabidiol). If this goes well after 3-4 days, then you can increase the number of drops.
When in doubt about dosage for other species or combination with other medications, it is wise to contact our experts for a free consultation.
Administering CBD oil: orally
Some animals just let the oil drip directly into their mouths, but this is not easy for every animal. With other animals such as dogs, it works better to drip some oil on the paw so they can lick the oil off.
If neither of these works, then give the oil with some (dog) food. Be sure to drizzle the oil on a ready-to-eat morsel of food, though, to make sure the entire dose is in.

Administering CBD oil: topically
You can also rub the CBD product directly on the skin for supple and moisturized skin. CBD oil can also provide relief if the horse, cat or dog suffers from irritations. Learn more about CBD oil for dogs, cats and horses here.
